Everyone is expecting people in great numbers and a new record for the highest attendance at a women’s sporting fixture seems to be in the making.

The last time people came to cheer the ladies in a tournament in large numbers was at the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup final, when 90,185 witnessed the USA beat China at the Rose Bowl in California, USA.

The final showdown is set to start at 6:00 PM AEDT. With Katy Perry leading a full pre-game show, fans are expected to be at the MCG by 5:00 PM.

The two great sides in the final, Australia is set to defend the title once again as it entered the finals with a nail biting victory over New Zealand at Junction Oval on Tuesday, while team India is ready to lift the cup for the first time in its Maiden Final appearance, after it qualified for the finals by beating England in a rain-washed match. Defending champions Australia also witnessed a record crowd of 5,614 attendees when it faced Bangladesh to qualify for the semifinals. With India maintaining the winning streak on point, it will be interesting to see a thrilling final over the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 has seen a great rise in the interest of fans turning up for the women’s cricket as compared to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2017. The number of ticket sales has gone up more than twice as the number of tickets that were pre-sold to the Lord’s final.

The women’s Indian Cricket Team reached the finals of ICC Twenty-20 world cup for the first time. But, not even a single ball was bowled and this was because the whole match was rained out. The Indian team led by Harmanpreet Kaur was going up against the England side but the match was called off due to heavy rain and the result was turned in favour of the Indian team as they moved into the finals.

The decision was taken on the basis of points tally of the group stage, where the Indian side had topped their table. This rule was not very welcomed by everyone as it was not fair for the side which had played their way through this point and stands amongst the best in the tournament.

Though the rule book says that each team needs to bat at least 5 overs each in case of a shortened match and to be considered a T20. Whereas the same over limit was revised to 10 overs for each team when playing in an ICC tournament. So, if 10 overs were not to be played, the match was eventually going to be called off. While this rule comes off as a drawback, what is even more surprising is the fact that there was no reserve day for the semi finals match.

Infact, ICC had declined Cricket Australia’s request to keep a reserve day for the semi finals. The request was declined as it was not ‘feasible’ to extend the duration of the ‘short and sharp’ T20 tournament, a spokesperson revealed.

Michael Vaughan, former England Men’s skipper was among the few who found this decision hard to comprehend.

Whereas Mithali Raj India Women’s ODI skipper congratulated her team but said she also felt for the England side.

If the game between Australia and South Africa would have been washed out then South Africa would have advanced to the finals to be played out at the MCG, as they were the ones who topped their points table in their respective group.

In the ICC Men’s ODI world cup last year, rain played a major role throughout the tournament and reserve days were kept for the semifinal matches in case they were disrupted.

The semi final match between India and New Zealand was completed on the reserve day as the game was disrupted by rain on the original day of the match. If the same rules as T20 world cup would have been applied, Virat Kohli led Indian team would have advanced to the finals as they were the ones who were at the top of their group in the round robin stage.

But ICC rules for men and women’s tournament are the same and the 2016 Men’s T20 world cup too, had no reserve days for the semi final matches. But unlike this year’s women’s T20 world cup, the semi finals were being played on different days.

While the final match does have a reserve day in case rain plays the spoilsport again, the question which remains is that why ICC declined the request when the hosts were ready to provide an extra day for the tournament to be played out in a decently fair manner.

This must sound shocking to you but yes legendary player Kapil Dev is not appreciating the return of the former captain of Indian team. As per the media reports, Kapil Dev has expressed his non-excitement about Dhoni returning on the play field. He also said that the league should be played by the younger generation and future stars. Before getting selected in India’s T20 world cup, Dhoni must play some matches.

From March 3, Dhoni will pilot his practices for the exciting and anticipated return into the IPL. As you all must be aware that after the ODI’s world cup played last year, there was uncertainty in the media about his career. Dhoni has also remained silent about the career speculations after the loss in the semifinal. Before the semi final exit, Captain of Chennai Super Kings led the country to conquer two world titles. In January, Dhoni’s name was crossed from BCCI’s list of centrally contracted players.

In the 5th Edition of HCL grant event, Kapil Dev said that  MS Dhoni is not the only person playing IPL. As a viewer, we want young players to get the bat and playing field, on whom we can be proud for the coming 10 years. If you see Dhoni’s record, he has done enough for the country. Kapil Dev also added that as Dhoni’s fan he would love him to play but as a cricketer, management has it all to decide. Dhoni has been out of the playing field for almost one year, so before entering the team he must play a few matches.

No one should be given special treatment, every player is the same and should follow the same parameter also added. As a cricket fan, everyone loves MS Dhoni on the playing field but he is on his last leg and Kapil wants the next generation to take the charge now and make their country proud on international ground.

Media also asked him about Jasprit Bumrah’s game. The 1983 world cup winning skipper is not a least bit worried. He is confident that Jasprit’s magic will be back on the field, he just needs a wicket-taking spell. He also commented that the body takes its own time to heal an injury and for a person or we can say cricketer like Jasprit Bumrah it will not take much time to be back in form. When asked about how confident he is about Jasprit, he said that the speedster’s former performances on the ground are enough to be confident about his comeback. Jasprit Bumrah went into a back injury.

As a Kapil Dev fan, I loved what he said about the cricketer that you need an inning as a batsman, one good spell as a bowler to make a great comeback. He only needs a few wickets. Kapil Dev also spoke in favour of management that they need to look at every aspect to select a player for a game. As an audience we just see one side of the puzzle. He also commented that the mistake in the opening test must be corrected by the team in the second game going to be held in Christchurch 07-03-2020 against New Zealand.

The cricketing great has appreciated and very happy about the Indian women’s cricket team entering the semi final in the ICC women’s T20 world cup going on in Australia. He appreciated the BCCI for providing not only opportunities but also facilities to the girls in the cricket world. Compared with former 15 years, now the women cricket team is much more equipped and skilled to handle.

The Twenty 20 World Cup is nearing its end and we have already witnessed a nail-biting finish in one of the semi-finals. The match between India and New Zealand saw some crucial insights that raised the eyebrows and heartbeats of the fellow cricket enthusiasts.

India edged the semi-finals with a Harmanpreet Kaur special concocted with the Shafali Verma match winning innings at the Oval in Melbourne.

Verma got lucky after she cashed in on two dropped catches to reach 46 off 34. Her whip crack start to the innings set the initial innings to a high. Although the innings faded during the last overs, the scoreboard held enough runs to defend by the magnificent line of bowlers.

Shikha Pandey started off by taking her first wicket of the second innings, that got Suzie Bates and Devine impatient to deliver boundaries. Poonam Yadav was however fined for 18 runs in the 19th over by Amelia Kerr that made the game more intense as it was leading to a nail biting finish.

Hurricane Verma took no time to adjust to the slower Junction Oval surface from the pace of Perth. She took the half volley off to boundaries straight for six followed by another maximum at a generous full toss. The other end was not well supported till Taniya Bhatia stood strong before walking back to pavilion with a square cut off by Rosemary Mair that was grabbed by Kerr. The dropped chances made the innings of Verma more ragged before she was caught at the long-off. Jemiah Rodrigues front edged full toss provoked Kaur to hit the ball straight to the hands of Leigh Kasperek.

Kerr restricts India

The early overs of New Zealand made them lodge on spin as Devine called upon her seven bowlers to slow down India. The best of them was Kerr who surprised the opposition by her variations with skills and strategy. Her focus got her the wickets of Verma and Veda Krishnamurthy.

India started off strong with just one wicket down at 68 but were reduced to 111 for 7 before Pandey and Radha Yadav struggled between the stumps to gather some crucial runs. The team was restricted to 134 despite a strong start and New Zealand were probably confident about its chances of winning.

Slow bowling, fast exits

Indian spinners started off really slow with the pace and that helped India to put pressure on the openers to score quickly yet efficiently. The top order of New Zealand played presumptuously.

Bates was left impatient to attack and made a pre-movement across the stumps. Deepti Sharma took advantage of the split second and NZ lost their third wicket. Devine mistimed the full toss by Poonam and was caught at the crucial stage after churning out the best of her game in the tournament.

New Zealand suffocated

Maddy Green and Katey Martin stood strong but the continuous surge of the required run rate added excitement to the much anticipated Indian crowd as they were inching close to the victory.

Fifty seven off 35 balls were required when Green decided to attack as it was the only option left. After Green walked back, Kerr delivered some magnificent insights to her batting skills as she stole 18 runs in the 19th and final over of Poonam. This  gave jitters to the crowd as the match entered its final over. Exceptionally bowled by Pandey, India finished it off in style and made way to the finals.

The lack of general public interest and enthusiasm was perceivable as only a handful of 3000 tickets was sold just the before the beginning of the game, accounted on the previous day of the commencement of the India and South Africa’s 3rd Test held in Ranchi.

INDIA VS South Africa Match Tickets 2020

For the whole history to testify, South Africa was taken on by India in the third as well as the final test from Saturday onwards held in Ranchi. India’s whopping target to completely whitewash South Africa while leading with 2-0, which was to be witness for the first time in the Test series till date, yet only the number of IND vs SA Match Tickets 2020 sold were 3000.

From October 15, the operation of ticket counters began but there seem to be no excitement whatsoever in the hometown of MS Dhoni, Ranchi, when India emerged out victorious in the series taken place in Vizag.

The ticket counters were looking extremely abandoned and deserted as there were no bustling of people or long queues.

The disappointment stated by Faisal and Dhiraj, the die-hard aficionados of cricket, came all the way to Ranchi from Rajasthan to attend the final test match was obvious : only fans like them have the interest to watch the format of five days. The majority cricket buffs are satisfied with just the succinct form of the game.

However, the organizers did not lose the expectation of attracting better crowd situation while the progression of the game takes place since the counters would remain open on all the 5 days during the Test. They hope to have the turnout of 75%. Many fans went the airport and the team hotel to greet and praise their heroes in fair number. Few cricket players landed in Ranchi on October 15 while the rest came on the second day.

India’s pride and captain, Virat Kohli arrived on Friday morning in Ranchi.

The situation was similar in 2017 when Australia was hosted by India in Ranchi.

Both South Africa and India have trained hard for the Test. While India’s approach was clinical as well as ruthless, South Africa needs to dramatically improve in order to resist India’s blows.

India has no plans to create changes inside the team unless an extra spinning is involved. If that happens, a pacer could be replaced by Kuldeep Yadav, the left-arm spinner.ICC T20 World Cup 2020 shall hopefully turn out to be a success among the public from the present scenario.
